Several award-winning federal executives were recently asked about their best day on the job (Federal Times). The character of these leaders shows through, especially in their comments on the military with whom they work (some of them) and for whom they work (all of them). The director of TRAC notes how he was humbled by the work ethic and commitment of his military and civilian team, adding that
"There is no greater privilege and delight than leading great people in great causes. For my charges and me, that cause is serving our one and only shareholder: the American soldier."
Private-sector employers, reading their government counterparts' praise for their military workforce, should recognize values like work ethic and commitment as the most translatable and among the most important.
