Every time I open a new browser window at work (that would be constantly), I see MSN.com, so it was kind of hard to miss this piece on servicemen and women working to finish their educations on active duty. It called to mind the blog I checked out on the soldier's quest to get his MBA and also reinforces the need for every one of us to keep our focus in our career searches. Will the kind of position you want require a degree or not? Employers attend our events with every imaginable need, as do bricks-and-mortar and online universities - you have to, have to go in knowing what you want to do with your capabilities. Some great quotes from the article describing military students apply just as much to military job seekers:
- They are "devoted, willing to learn, and capable of staying focused on accomplishing their long-term goals."
- They know "how to work with deadlines and do what they have to do to meet them."
- They "know how to get things done without making excuses."
Get things done in your career search by always knowing exactly what you want, and, as our visiting Orion CEO Bill Laughlin just told us this morning: regardless of what kind of education you have, never stop learning.
